Bonito and South Pantanal Vacation Package – Overview
This vast wetland, measuring 230,000 sq km (143,000 sq miles), in the central west of Brazil, is one of the worlds greatest wildlife preserves and includes spectacular canyons and waterfalls in its stunning scenery. The Pantanal is home to 700 species of bird, around 240 varieties of fish, giant anteaters, armadillos, marmosets, monkeys, wolves, pumas, anacondas, capivaras, and the impressive cayman, to name but a few species. With this package you will also stay in Bonito, which has breathtaking mountain and forest scenery and whose main attractions are wildlife, rivers and caves with crystal waters and amazing stalagmite and stalactite formations. Bonito and South Pantanal Vacation Package – Day by Day Itinerary
This is a Sample Vacation Package that we have created for customers in the past.
Day 1 – Bonito
You will be met at the Campo Grande airport and driven to your hotel in Bonito. This trip will take about 3-4 hours. At hotel you will check in. The afternoon is free to relax. Dinner is at the hotel
Day 2 – Bonito
Today you will have a full day of tours – Blue Lake Cave /Snorkeling and Scuba-Diving in the Rio Prata/Hole of the Macaws.
After Breakfast, transfer to the Gruta do Lago Azul (Blue Lake Cave). It is undoubtedly the most visited attraction in the region, being known and admired by people all over the world. It is an immense cave which has in its interior a lake of crystalline and blue turquoise waters. The trail to reach the lake is steep, down stairs made with cave stones (approximately 290 steps) and without handrail support. The cave has a unique look, formed by stalactites, stalagmites, travertines and several other calcareous formations. The lake attracts visitors by the blue color and the transparency of the water with more than 80 meters of depth.
In the afternoon, you will be transferred to the town of Jardim, about 55km from Bonito. Taking advantage of the aquatic beauty of the region, the tour is carried out at the Cabeceira do Prata Farm. Upon arriving at the farm, you will test out the necessary equipment and then be taken to the beginning of the trail. Along with a local guide, you will walk through a forest for about 2,000 meters passing by large trees such as the aroeira, peroba, balm, angico, and ipes trees. You can also come across monkeys, cotia, tapir, peccaries, mutum, and other animals. You will finally reach the river to begin the adventure of 1,800 meters down the river to enjoy a great diversity of fish, aquatic vegetation, and unforgettable scenery. At the end of the route, there is also the option to use a support boat. There is a reception area near the river with a small shop, bar, and restaurant, where you can find delicious regional cuisine.
This scuba-diving tour program is composed of basic instructions for diving and equipment adaptation. A fascinating dive, ideal for those who want to experience a water so crystalline that it impresses even the more experienced divers. The whole tour is accompanied by instructor / Dive master and lasts approximately 40 minutes at a depth of up to 7 meters. The beauty of the river makes the activity relaxing by the beautiful visual of several species of fish and aquatic vegetation.
Afterwards, a short hike on a trail around South America’s largest sinkhole, known as the Buraco das Araras (Macaw’s Hole) 124 meters (407 ft) deep with a diameter of 500 meters (1640 ft), enabling a panoramic view of its interior where red and green Macaws along with other birds build their nests. It is possible to see a lagoon inside and some caimans that live there. The birds offer a spectacle flying all around at the end of the day and It is best to visit during early in the morning or late in the afternoon, before sunset.
Return back to Bonito.
Day 3 – South Pantanal
After breakfast you will go on an interpretive trail through the gallery forest of Mimosa River, reaching eight waterfalls of various sizes and shapes. Along the way, there are places suitable for swim under waterfalls or in natural pools. Along the trail, there are small caves, suspended wood trails, observatories, a small boat ride and a 6-meter high diving board. The tour is an unforgettable adventure for all ages and a unique opportunity to find rest and relaxation. To ensure quality, safety and nature respect, the groups are size limited to a maximum of twelve visitors and are always accompanied by a specialized local guide.
After the tour, pick-up and transfer-out of Bonito to your South Pantanal lodge. Upon arrival and accommodation at your lodge you will be given a lodge tour to learn the daily routine of the lodge. Dinner. After dinner, a nighttime safari will follow.
The Pantanal area of Mato Grosso do Sul State is the largest continuous wetland in the world. It has an area of 140.000 square kilometers of floodplain in Brazil and it also spreads through Paraguay, Bolivia and Argentina. It was formed between 02 and 05 million years ago as a large sedimentary basin and now is an isolated plain surrounded by several mountain areas. It is considered as a world heritage site.
Most lodges offer 2 activities per day. Usually one in the morning and the second after lunch in the afternoon. The activities will be coordinated by the lodge and will be schedule upon arrival. The activities offered can vary however, most include:

NOCTURNAL ANIMAL SPOTTING:
This tour is done in the dark in order to see some of the nocturnal animals of the region and the starry sky of the Pantanal. The trip will be done in car with a flashlight to make it easier to locate the animals.
All the tours pass through unique landscapes, but horse-back riding is one of best ways to see the marshes of the region. You will have the opportunity to ride through open fields, swamps, ridges, coves, and bays, all while coming across a rich variety of flora and fauna typical of the region. The horses are very calm, and even those who have never ridden can do this tour without problems.

BOAT TOUR ON THE AQUIDAUANA:
During this tour, you will see the Aquidauana river in all its beauty with its century-old trees, birds, mammals, reptiles, and other wildlife along the banks of the river during the route.

Trekking is done in a closed forest and open field and this tour allows you the most contact with the flora and fauna of the region. There are several paths and tracks around the farm and the tour can last anywhere from 2-4 hours. At certain times of the year, trails can pass through places with water, so your clothes and shoes may get wet.

Day 4 – South Pantanal
On your second day at the South Pantanal you will go on a morning tour after breakfast. Lunch is back at the lodge and in the afternoon you will be taken on a different tour. Tours will vary according to trail conditions and weather. See options above on day 3. Dinner is back at the hotel.
Day 5 – South Pantanal
On your third day at the Pantanal Sul you will go on a morning tour after breakfast. Lunch is back at the lodge and in the afternoon you will be taken on a different tour. Tours will vary according to trail conditions and weather. See options above on day 3. Dinner is back at the hotel.
Day 6 – South Pantanal
On your last day in the Pantanal you will check out of the hotel and be driven to the Campo Grande airport (~4 hour drive).
