Located in Bahia’s interior, the Chapada Diamantina (Diamond Plateau) is an ancient geological region whose weird and fantastic rock formations aboveground including a system of quartzite caves with crystal clear lakes and underground rivers, made it one of the Brazil`s top natural destination.
At the beginning of the 19th century, two German prospectors discovered a huge vein of diamonds in a region of unusual rock formations, tablelands, subterranean rivers, waterfalls, valleys and mountains called morros.
Most of the region’s most spectacular natural attractions – including Brazil’s highest waterfall, the Cachoeira da Fumaça or the famous Morro do Pai Inácio— are located in the Chapada Diamantina National Park.
