Located at the top of a Mountain at 845 meters of altitude, Petropolis was established in 1843, when Dom Pedro II chose this place as the summer residence of the royal family.

The palace, located in the town’s historic center, now houses the incredible Imperial Museum with nearly 7,000 pieces of furniture, clothing, weapons and fantastic crown jewelry from the 18th and 19th centuries.

The town is used as a base for access to the National Park of the Organ Mountains, where the famous Finger of God rock formation is (which, on clear days, overlooks Rio de Janeiro).

Weekends are usually lively in Petrópolis, especially in winter, when the town holds two important Music Festivals (June and July).
