Everybody is fascinated by the elegance and the feeling for rhythm that the Brazilians have and by the Bahian cuisine, that is very impressive. At our school, you will have the opportunity to feel it!
No matter if it is Samba and all of its variations - Samba de Roda, Samba Carioca, Samba Baiano, Pagode - or Forró, the more folkloric dance formations of Saint Johns festivities in June. Or rhythms of African origin - the body moves in perfect harmony with the music. You will be introduced to rhythms of Candomblé rituals, where every God or Godness moves to his own rhythms, having its own songs. The teacher, trained in Afro-Brazilian dances, will give you first notions of Capoeira movements that is famous in Salvador and always shown and used during the Carnaval.
The Bahian dishes have the influence of Portuguese, African and Indian cultures with a predominance of local exotic ingredients. At our school you will learn how to cook this distinctive culinary composing for example a Moqueca, made of shrimp or fish, cooked in coconut milk, palm oil, herbs and spices. Our professional cook will teach you the secret of mixing together ingredients to prepare this famous entré and some other famous and delicious dishes like Feijoada, Bobó de Camarão, Vatapá , Acarajé, and Carne de Sol. You will enjoy tasting the great variety of delicious, exotic, flavorful dishes you will be preparing on your own, with assistance. The incredible variety of savory fruits yields to an infinite number of tropical cocktail combinations, take for example - the famous Caipirinha !
There are numerous desserts for you to learn to prepare: Cocada, Mousse de Maracujá, Brigadeiro, and Brazilian breakfast specialties such as Mingau de Tapioca. And last but not least you will learn how the Licor de Jenipapo, typical northeastern liquor, is produced.
Enjoy these classes in the wonderful exotic city of Salvador da Bahia wich is the second most touristic city of Brazil and has an interesting mixture of African and Portuguese influences, music, dance, food and dress.
Accommodation: 6 nights at Mar Azul Hotel, located on Barra beach, within 5 minutes walking distance of the school. Breakfast included daily at the hotel.
Classes:
Two (2) 60-minute Samba and Dance Classes for one week. Classes are held in the afternoon and consist of a theoretical and a practical part. A professional teacher gives a general introduction to different rhythms and dances or styles, resuming history, tradition and development of Brazilian dance. Be prepared for Carnival!
Two 90-minute Bahian Cuisine classes for one week. Classes are held in the afternoon and consist of a theoretical and a practical part. Includes the cooking ingredients and the teaching material (booklet with recipes, basic vocabulary and some facts about tradition, historical and cultural background of Bahian and Brazilian Cuisine). At the end of each class you will participate in a gorgeous banquet.
Tours:
Full Day Salvador City Tour featuring Pelourinho, the Mercado Modelo (handcraft market) and other historical sites. This tour includes a typical Bahian lunch at Senac.
Artistic, and colorful Folkloric show with typical Bahian dinner at Solar do Unhão Fort.
