Harrington B. - Rio, Iguassu Falls, Pantanal and Amazon
Our Brazilian holiday was incredibly enjoyable and it has given us many memories and experiences which we will remember for a lifetime.
Here are some specific comments as feedback.
Firstly, I would like to thank you personally. The organisation job that you did was excellent, and your willingness to make yourself available for support back-up during the holiday was very welcome.
I think I was to blame for the mix up in arriving in Rio. When the flights from UK to Rio were part of the earlier packages you quoted we would not have needed accommodation on the Friday night itself.
However, once I got a UK agent to arrange the international flights, I did not spot that the earlier arrival time meant that there we now needed an extra night's accommodation. To add to the confusion, our flight from Sao Paulo to Rio was changed (different fight number, later arrival time) so we assumed this was why there was nobody there to meet us. It appeared that the flight schedule we had and the one held by KLM were not the same. I don't know whether the blame for this lies with our UK agent or KLM. It was a simple matter (and not too
expensive) to get a taxi to the hotel from the airport.
Rio.
Augusto's Copacobana hotel was satisfactory in terms of standarsds (in saying this I would also comment that we were not looking for greatluxury in our hotles, just comfortable accommodation) and all the staff were extremely helpful. The only comment was that the jacuzzi and suana didn't seem to be operating.
The jeep tour was excellent - an extremely good way to get an orientation to the city and its principle sights in a single day. Our guide, Jose Agosto, was extremely knowledgeable and his enthusiasm never seemed to drop. His English was excellent. From him, we were able to learn much about modern life in Brazil and Rio as well as the history of the sights we were seeing.
Foz.
All transports fine. Met by agent, Joao Celso, who guided us well through our 2 enjoyable days in Foz and got us to the airport. He was very knowledgebale about the flora and fauna and give us enough time at all the key places without hurrying us. The Turrance Green Hotel was, again, satisfacory and comfortable which is what we expected. A safe deposit box in the room would have been welcome.
Pantanal.
Pousada Aguape was superb - the rooms were good, very relaxed atmosphere, with interesting and varied tours. 4 days was just the right amount of time. Food was very good and plentiful. Staff and guides were very friendly. It was nice that the owner was around and seemed to take a genuine interest in his visitors, and ate in the restaurant at the same time as the guests. Our guide, Lejainia, was excellent. She was familiar with the Pousada and the guides who worked there, and was very informative about the wildlife. Again, her English was excellent.
Amazon.
No problems with pickup and transport to Ecopark Lodge. The Lodge was larger and therefore slightly less personal than the Pousada had been but the rooms were good and the food was good and plentiful. Pathways around the Lodge were a bit cracked and in need of renovation but the principle areas (reception, restaurant, bar, etc.) were well maintained. Our guide, Enrique, was extremely knowledgeable about the jungle and the flora/fauna.
There is perhaps just one samll adverse comment that I would make, overall. Many of our flights left very early which meant we missed breakfast. Given that we were paying on a half- or full-board basis in all places, it would have been nice to perhaps have a small breakfast box to take with us (even if it had to be prepared the evening before). Even if it was just a bread roll with some jam or a coffee before we set off, it would have made the gap in time to our proper breakfast (in the airport) a bit shorter - quite important when you have 2 teenage boys!
Overall, this was a truly memorable holiday. I would be very happy to recommend your company to any of my friends if they ever wanted to arrange a holiday in Brazil.
Good luck wiht your business in the future. Best wishes,
Brendan Harrington
