T. O'Brien (USA) - Rio de Janeiro - Iguassu Falls - Buenos Aires - Mendonza
Rio de Janeiro: We only used the pre-arranged guide to pick us up at the airport and take us to the hotel. She was very good and she picked us up in her own car and stayed with us until we had checked in successfully. She also confirmed our tour for the next day. She did not transport us back to the airpor as we were picked up by my friend and driven to Angra and then on to Sao Paulo, where we stayed at the Marriott at the airport the night before we flew home. The guide for the Jeep Tour, 4 Wonders tour was very good and we had a lot of fun with him. Thanks Fabrice, overall, I would give you and the adventure you put together for us an A! Great job and thanks. We now may start planning a trip to Chile for the wine country and then back to Argentina and a trip to Patagonia!
Iguassu Falls: The hotel was out of the way. We would have been better to stay closer and on the Argentinian side where you get more for your money (sheraton). The room we were put into was old, no view and very small and hot. I asked for a room change and we got a better, newer room, but still not the quality that we had prior on the trip. The hotel was a family hotel, with high prices on all food and only had buffet and was on a very busy highway. We were removed and could not walk to any other restaurants. Was very nice outset. The pool, the grounds, etc.
Buenos Aires: It was a great city and our guide and driver were great. The only problem we had was at the airport getting into the county as we had not been advised that there was a recipricol fee for Americans to pay, $160 each. We waited in passport control for more than an hour, then was turned away and directed to a computer against the wall in which we had to go on line and pay with a credit card. It was all in Spanish and we had to wait until someone could help us. It was very much a waste of time that could have been avoided if we had known. The fee has been in place for many years.
Mendonza. Very nice. However the high-priced picnic lunch in the Andes was a huge disappointment. We asked for vegetarian, which is was not and we asked for red wine and received a bottle of white. We had meat sandwiches, a salad, and dessert bars that one could find in a grocery store. It was no where near a gourmet meal. Far from it. The bus load of people stopped at a roadside cafe in a small town with no view and no where to eat our picnic lunch outside. We werent allowed to eat in the restaurant because we brought our own food, so we had to go into a back area of a bar and eat among three little kids playing and watching cartoons on the TV. We would have been better off buying from the restaurant. It was a bad experience, but it did not ruin our amazing trip through the Andes. Was a good recommendation, just skip the prepared lunch next time.
